E3 07: Games to keep your eye on

I’m sure you are as overwhelmed as me with all the news, coverage, trailers, etc coming out of this years E3. It’s a lot to wrap your mind around, and there is a lot of crap to wade through. In all honesty though, I’m pretty overwhelmed with the quantity of quality games being shown. Here is what I deem worth checking out:

Mass Effect – Xbox 360 (November 07)

The graphics and scope alone are jaw dropping, but it’s the team on board that gives this game promise. We know they can craft a story, and Mass Effect looks like no exception.

E3 07: Halo: Arms Race – Live Action Short

Posted: July 11th, 2007 | Author: Justin Nolan | Filed under: E3 2007, Halo 3, Xbox 360 | 2 Comments »

If you missed the live action short during last nights MS Media Briefing, here it is. This video was a collaboration between Bungie Studios, director Neill Blomkamp, WETA Workshop and Origami Digital LLC. It is described as “the first digital short depicting humanity’s struggle to save Earth.” You can download it from Bungie, or watch below. Enjoy.

Snake Stays!

It’s official, Hideo Kojima has announced that Metal Gear Solid IV will be on the PS3 exclusively. He went on to say that GOP will be the final installment in the series. This couldn’t have come at a better time since I was planning on microwaving my PS3 for research purposes.

I take back what I said about Killzone. =)

E3 07: Three conferences down, E3 to go

Posted: July 11th, 2007 | Author: Justin Nolan | Filed under: E3 2007, Rants | 3 Comments »

So the big three conferences are over. What did you think? There weren’t any ground rumbling announcements. No 360 or Wii price cuts. No major losses (or gains) of exclusivity. No new tattoos. We saw all the games we expected, and that was pretty much that. There were a couple so-so (aka who cares) announcements.

I don’t feel we are in much a different place than we were 24 hours ago. You can bet Wii will sell well through the holidays, as well as 360. Halo 3 will definitely move some systems, as well as GTA4 on 360 and PS3 alike. I think PS3 has gained some face amongst all its adversity. The “price cut” should help move some systems, and I am happy for them that didn’t lose MGS4. I think everyone is pretty happy with where they are. More importantly, I think as gamers, we should be happy where WE are. It’s a pretty damn good time to be a gamer. You better start saving that bank for this holiday season, ’cause there are some kick ass games coming out.

Ubisoft Remains Hush Hush over Assassin’s Creed

What the hell was that?

If you didn’t happen to catch the craptacular footage from the Microsoft conference tonight, Ubisoft is still keeping their baby under wraps.

What the dilly-yo? The footage we received tonight was almost identical to last years E3…The protagonist Altair was shown jumping from wooden planks (not unlike Prince of Persia). And the fighting system…still looks weak.

Producer Jade Raymond has promised over 800 moves for Altair, yet maybe only two were showcased during the battle sequence.

Now if Ubisoft doesn’t deliver some sort of “next gen” gameplay by November like they’ve promised, I say bah to this game.

Quit wasting our time with your meaningless hijinks. There are plenty of other fish in the sea. (ehhmm…Resident Evil 5).

Assassin’s Creed

Oh, and where’s the MGS4 tattoo?

It’s already up for download at Bungie and HBO. Bungie has it in all the WMV flavors (including HD), while HBO has it QT format… for those of you that enjoy Quicktime (also available in 720p).

If you missed the Press Briefing, you didn’t miss much. Except this trailer. So download it. Now.

E3 07: Halo 3 Limited Edition Xbox 360 announced (UPDATED)

Posted: July 11th, 2007 | Author: Justin Nolan | Filed under: E3 2007, Halo 3, Xbox 360, Xbox Live | 3 Comments »

The “gray” 360 everyone has been speculating about ended up being a Limited Edition Halo 3 themed console, to be launched alongside Halo 3. No details on specs yet. My guess is that it will have the same features and price as the Premium SKU, plus the (ugly) green and gold color scheme.

Halo 3 Console

UPDATE: Bungie reveals that it is HDMI equiped, so there blows my theory. No details on HDD size, or anything else. All that info should be revealed tomorrow.

E3 07: Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer Beta on 360

It must be the new cool thing to do. Infinity Ward announced moments ago that Call of Duty 4 will have a multiplayer beta exclusively on Xbox 360. Check out CharlieOscarDelta.com for more info.

E3 07: Gears of War confirmed for Vista

Posted: July 10th, 2007 | Author: Justin Nolan | Filed under: E3 2007, PC | No Comments »

-New Content
-Level Editor
-More to be revealed

5 New single player missions
New arenas, new multiplayer mode.

As expected, it looks gorgeous. I just don’t want to know what kind of PC you need to push this game to it’s full ability. The game will be out this holiday season.

Does anyone else smell DLC in the 360s future?
