New Street Fighter IV character

Posted: January 11th, 2008 | Author: Tarun Kunwar | Filed under: News | 1 Comment »

Found within a neogaf forum, there’s apparently a new Street Fighter character…and it’s some chick…with a pink mohawk…pink glasses, and an Avril Lavigne tie.

Wtf?

The developers have mentioned that there won’t be many returning fighters from the previous editions…

This is hardly the alternative I was expecting.

Well, weird “Pink Look-alikes” or not, this game is still going to rock face.

Street Fighter IV Gameplay

I mean, seriously. That shit looks sexy. Street Fighter has always been my favorite fighting franchise, and they’re still keeping it real.

In these two first look videos, game devs and other nerds meticulously break down the mechanics of the game. One thing they mention is the fact that Street Fighter isn’t too detailed unlike the rest of the big fighting franchises (Tekken 6, Soul Calibur IV). Franchises like Tekken have made me lose some respect since they focus on character attire and other pointless customizations over the game play. The past three Tekkens have been identical to me.

Yes, maybe the animation on Ryu’s face makes it like like he’s got roid rage…but they fighting looks flippin sweet. Oh, and apparently tech counters are a thing of the past. :(

Ferris wheel exploit

Posted: December 17th, 2007 | Author: Tarun Kunwar | Filed under: COD4 | 2 Comments »

School’s out for evaaaa.

Now that I’m finally done with finals, I can start focusing my attention back to the site, as opposed to Newtonian Laws of Physics.

Ever since I got COD4, I haven’t gotten enough time to rock the single player mode (I just finished the campaign today). Everybody was warning me about this “Ferris Wheel” part of the game where it’s “totally impossible to beat dude.” After planting my claymores and bracing for this monumental event, I watched as these asswipes infiltrated the premises via helicopter.

I shot nearly all of them as they slid down their ropes, but the horde on the ground was too much. Invisible dog attack here, followed by an impossible grenade toss, followed by some jerk shooting me through solid metal…I was losing it! I even tried hiding in the poisonous gas section. Needless to say that didn’t work.

Then I fully came to understand my hypothesis behind this game:

If you’re dying too much, you’re firing too much. In other words, if you’re in a stalemate against an endless amount of opponents, you need to kill some of them, and advance your position.

The ferris wheel however is a little bit tricker. Since there is an X amount of time until your tardy-ass air support arrives, the name of the game is long length survival.

Right before I leave for work, I decided to give this ferris wheel one last shot.

Standing underneath the ferris wheel, I take out as many of the helicopter asswipes. Immediately following, I head behind the building on the far right (next to the path where the main horde enters). I realized that I had found a sweet spot where no one could find me and tested it by taking a leak while I left the game unpaused. Upon my return, I was alive as the air support landed.

Disclaimer – This has not been Veteran tested yet. I know there are other ferris wheel exploits that haven’t seemed to work on Veteran, but this one is worth a shot.

The Update is here

Posted: December 4th, 2007 | Author: Tarun Kunwar | Filed under: Marketplace, Xbox Live | 2 Comments »

The Major has spoken. Just when I thought Marketplace couldn’t get any better…

I am happy to announce that the latest dashboard update has now been officially released and is in process of being rolled out across the LIVE service. For many of you, the next time you sign in to Xbox LIVE, you will be prompted to receive the update. A couple of things to keep in mind over the next few hours as the update is deployed:

* You’ll be prompted to accept the update when you sign into Xbox Live sometime in the next few hours. You will only receive the prompt for the update upon sign in. You won’t get it in middle of a game.
* Regardless of what you have heard, it’s not geographically based. No one area of the world will get it before another.
* If you log out and then back in again, this won’t force the update…it will only anger people on your friends list who will see you sign in, then out, then in, then out …
* Be patient, everyone will eventually receive the update

To the fine folks at Xbox, away message system? Next update maybe? You’ll think about it perhaps? Word, sounds good.

For an in depth list of all the new features in the update, check out Elle’s article.

There’s always room for improvement.

Xbox 360 Fall Update (Divx baby!)

Posted: November 30th, 2007 | Author: Tarun Kunwar | Filed under: Marketplace, News, Xbox Live | 3 Comments »

And they’ve added DIVX! I always thought that they should add some sort of away message system similar to some instant messaging programs. It would let your buddies know if you’re grubbin’ out or rekindling yourself with nature before gettin’ yo game on.

XBox classics and mutual friends? Yawnnn.
A more in depth online profile and some new video features? Yippiee!

Guns, girls, cars and an angry Eastern European chap; add a 360/PS3, and you’ve got yourself a real next gen sandbox title. Sorry Altaïr.

The next trailer has been announced for December 6th. Hopefully something more than just a montage this time? Yauzaa! Can’t wait.

Wii lightsaber

Wii Lightsaber!

Patience young Padawan learners, the Wii lightsaber is no longer a figment of our imaginations! As always, be mindful of your thoughts.

Too bad this controller will be used for Lego Star Wars and not this…

Hey, if they can make a guitar for 360 and PS3, why not a lightsaber? :)

No Achievements for Xbox Originals

Posted: November 16th, 2007 | Author: Tarun Kunwar | Filed under: Marketplace, News, Xbox 360 | No Comments »

I don’t quite understand Microsoft’s strategy behind this whole “play original Xbox titles on your 360.” And now this no Achievement business?

According to Major Nelson’s page…

These are the original games that were created before Xbox 360. In order to preserve the integrity of the original gaming experience they provide, they will have the features available at the time of their initial release.

Hmmmmm…isn’t that the exact thing they don’t do with XBLA games? Me smell a hint of hypocrisy in the air. I mean, why play Halo 3 when you can pay money for Halo 2? (As if everyone and their mommas don’t already have it.)

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY XBOXLIVE!

Divx support coming to your PS3

Posted: November 13th, 2007 | Author: Tarun Kunwar | Filed under: PS3 | No Comments »

A nice move by Sony which will benefit movie pirates everywhere! Up until now, i was watching downloaded movies via the prehistoric VGA method. None of that for me anymore! :) This does however somewhat defeat the purpose of incorporating an online movie library within Home doesn’t it?

“We are excited to work with Sony Computer Entertainment to bring DivX to PS3,” said Kevin Hell, CEO of DivX, Inc. “Our technology will expand the multimedia functionality of PS3 by enabling users to enjoy access to the broad library of content in the DivX digital media format.”
