Announcing HighDefJunkie.com
December 21st, 2007 | by Justin Nolan |How are you, friends? It’s been a long time no see, I know. As of lately I’ve taken a somewhat extended hiatus from gaming. Many of you know I’m majoring in film, and it has redirected many of my interests to movies. And it’s no surprise gaming has accelerated those interests, with the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on drive introducing me to High-Definition media, followed by the Playstation 3 with it’s Blu-ray drive. Between you and me, I’ll tell you it’s like a crack addiction. I just can’t get enough high-definition content.
I had been toying with the thought of starting a new website dedicated to HD, and with one sleepless night, it was so. I present to you: High-Def Junkie
If you read this website, chances are you too are a high-def junkie. Many of us went through the transition from standard def together. I bought my first HDTV in late 2005 in preparation for the Xbox 360 launch. Then after a YEAR of relentless nagging (by yours truly), our friend Tarun went HD. And now, it has completely spoiled me. It actually pains me to watch anything in standard-def.
So I extend an invitation for you to join me over at High-Def Junkie. Since gaming is very much a part of the high-def addiction along with movies, I’m planning to in someway tie these two sites together. I’ve already set up forums over at High-Def Junkie, with a section dedicated to gaming. Perhaps I will make them the official gamerawr forums? Any input is appreciated. See you there!

I would love to get COD4, I’m just broke. I don’t want to bust out the modded Xbox because they’ve been like hawks lately banning consoles.
I asked Santa for the Bourne Trilogy on HD DVD for Christmas. It’s sitting under my tree! All three movies were $50 shipped from Amazon, which isn’t bad. I can’t wait to watch Ultimatum. I never saw it in theaters… I’ve been waiting for it on HD DVD. It’s supposed to kick ass.
BTW, I stopped by EB today but you weren’t working. I saw they had Dragons Lair HD DVD. That is probably the lamest thing ever released on HD DVD.

The XBox 360 games just aren’t the same on a standard def. I haven’t got into the whole high def movies yet, mainly because I don’t really want to buy movies for one platform when it is going to be obsolete because it lost the format war.
Oh, and by the way, the top link is broken, it goes to highdefjunkies.com instead of highdefjunkie.com

Thanks Punkster, link fixed.
Your reason is the same as many for not getting into high def movies. It’s a valid concern, but heres how I look at it. If one format “dies”, that doesn’t mean your movies and player is going to suddenly stop working. Just look at Laser Disc, or even VHS. People still enjoy their VHS and Laser Disc collections, even though they have been superseded by DVD. You just have more players, which makes your AV rack look that much more badass
