Prince of Perisa IV: The Sands of Spinoff
July 9th, 2007 | by Tarun Kunwar |With E3 just around the corner, I can’t help but wonder…WHY IS ASSASSIN’S CREED SO OVER-HYPED?
After watching a bunch of game development videos, I’m still a tad skeptic. (Keep in mind that we’ve hardly seen any gameplay). The most over-hyped game this year might just be a short lived Prince of Persia spinoff. With only nine targets to assassinate, this game promises little to no replay value. Now don’t get me wrong, I am looking forward to the three part gameplay of (pursuing/assassinating/running like hell), but that fighting system looks blasé. Yeah, the interactive environment is cool and all, but this isn’t a big leap from the POP franchise. (They’ve gone from running on walls to climbing them). So instead of implementing some trite matrix-esque plot, perhaps Ubisoft should spend some time tweaking the gameplay.
(p.s. I hate Prince of Persia) =)
Fearing the worst, hoping the best.
As for the rest of E3:
*Bungie needs to give us some fresh campaign footage to keep the buzz alive.
*Fighting games need to make a comeback cause I’m getting sick of FPS. (apparently a new Mortal Kombat for the DS is in the making).
*Naughty Dog’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune - sleeper hit for PS3.
*Super Smash Bros. Brawl to take over the world.
*Killzone 2 will still suck.
Only one question remains…shall he heed the call?
Oh, and if you haven’t already, check out Chief’s customizable headgear!

I am not to big on ASSASSIN’S CREED, the trailers do look badass, but the story doesnt interest me. i do agree with the new guy
“short lived Prince of Persia spinoff. With only nine targets to assassinate, this game promises little to no replay value”
“pursuing/assassinating/running like hell” THAT’S ALL!!
Ubisoft/Jade Raymond (HOT CHICK) better put more stuff into this game such as: the game should have rival assassins, who are trying to kill ur target, but u have to kill ur rival before he kills ur target, then u kill the target, then run like hell, or fight like a man!!! u get the idea

I didn’t care for prince of Persia but I still think that assassins creed will be better than you expect. Like you said we haven’t seen much game play, so I imagine that there will be a lot more than what we have seen. Also I believe the game will be more of a sandbox to do what we wish.
Also the comment of Killzone 2 sucking is uncalled for. I don’t even own a playstation 3 and don’t attend to buy one soon. Hell I am not even a sony fan but that doesn’t mean we want games to be bad on a system. It could be the greatest game of all time and if it I would play it, no matter what console it is on. What I am saying is don’t bash game, bash the console.

You make valid points. I guess since I’ve always liked the Prince of Persia franchise/series, I wouldn’t mind “The Sands of Spinoff” ;). I am a bit concerned about the length of the game and replayability. Games like GoW can get away with an 8 hour campaign can get away with that because of the multiplayer aspect. $60 for 10 hours of entertainment is pushing it, even if it’s really good entertainment. The Half-Life 2 Orange pack is showing us just how much value you SHOULD get for your money (okay, maybe that goes above and beyond).
And are you sure it’s only 9 targets, and not nine “bosses” or whatnot. There are probably sub-missions. I haven’t been keeping up with the game, so I dont know. We should learn more during the next week.
T, nice write up.

dont count out Killzone 2 for the PS3 just yet, judging from the trailer it looks promising and a hot new game (might be better than Gears)…yes the killzone PS2 did sucked.
