Despite the great scare earlier this month, Bungie has confirmed that not only will Halo 3 have 2 player co-op over Xbox Live, they will do you two better and make that four player! The long standing rumor is finally confirmed, and we can all rejoice.
You will only be able to do 2 players on the same console, be it offline, online, or system link. You can still jump in with up to two other players via Xbox Live, or LAN.
To prevent confusion, and the fabric of reality from tearing, not everyone will play as Master Chief. You’ve got MC, the Arbiter, and two new Elites. Full details are over at Bungie.
To promote Halo 3, Red vs Blue is back in a 5 part mini-series. Really, they are just a big commercial for the game. It’s such a corporate sellout move, you can online watch them on big game retailers sites like Gamestop, Bestbuy, and Amazon. You know, so you’re tempted to pre-order the game while you are there. I’m sure fans of the series are glad, and I guess there are a few “ha” lines in this first episode. I’ve ripped and youtubified the first episode and embedded it below for your enjoyment.
Be prepared, because this is only the beginning of the onslaught of Halo 3 promotions coming at your face. I recommend you run and hide now.
I’ll be frank and honest… I’ve never played a Metal Gear game, and I’ve never wanted to. I tried one out about 7 years ago at my cousins house. He was all into the game, and I just didn’t get it. MGS4 is now coming, and people are hailing it as the second coming. I still don’t get it.
Graphics: The graphics are great, but nothing we haven’t seen before. Don’t get me wrong, the graphics are good, but they don’t make the game stick out (and yes, I watched the HD 720p video).
Gameplay: Again, I don’t see anything to write home about. Not only is the stealth ridiculous and unrealistic (pretend to be a statue? turn argyle and dry hump the floor… and you are completely invisible to the enemy? squeeze a guys balls to knock him out? turn into a barrel and roll around?), but it looked pretty boring to me.
Homoerotics: Probably my biggest qualm is just how gay the game looks… literally. Am I the only one that DOESN’T want to look at Snake’s ass in those tights for a prolonged period of time? Not only is the statue camouflage gimmicky, does he need to grab the statues package? Does he need to look like he is humping the floor when he crawls? Is the “judo” hump kill necessary? Again with the packages… can you stay away from the enemies balls?
And no, reading porn mags in-game doesn’t hide your homosexual tendencies. Again, another WTF moment.
I get it’s suppose to be humorous. The impression that I’m left with is that this game is a joke.
Oh yes… MGS4 is going to be online! Oh… no it’s not. Metal Gear Online will be online. Why not split the multiplayer mode from a game and sell it as it’s own game. We can milk those Metal Gear fans dry!
Please let me know what I’m missing.
And before you start flaming, I do have a PS3. I’m dying for some good games (LBP couldn’t get here sooner).
Yup, that’s right…Sony has released another firmware update (1.90). Oh, and this time, it’s not lame.
-WALLPAPERS! We can finally change our PSP’s…errr PS3’s background. =).
-Updating your system via USB is a thing of the past; and it’s about damn time.
-Ejecting discs using Sixaxis. (We are a lazy people).
-Emoticons! And not just smilies, we’re talking the metal sign, hearts, music notes, and a bunch of other crap I can’t quite make out.
-AV Settings can be changed during DVD/ Blu-Ray playback.
-Games can be sorted in the XMB by creation date or format.
Overall, a good update, but we still need a fully functioning/ubiquitous XBM as well as some faster downloads. I’m not gonna lie though, I’m still pretty psyched for Home and hanging out with everyone in my virtual apartment. It’ll be a blast. We can eat virtual popcorn on my virtual furniture while listening to my virtual Bowie albums. Let’s just forget about gaming all together!
Dammit. I can’t believe this is happening but as of now, there shall be no Halo 3 Co-op online. Gwaa!?! “We know that people want it and we’re trying to make it happen. I think the biggest problem for us for online co-op is that we have a situation where you can be in a Warthog with five troops, almost a mile away from the other player. That’s a significant challenge,” says Bungie’s Frank Conner.
Ok, I’ll ignore this for now and ignorantly keep my hopes up that maybe somewhere down the line there will be an update that will fix this crap. C’MON BUNGIE! “If we can make it happen in a way that works well, we will – and if it works badly, we won’t.”
Excuse me while I sob.
Oh the irony. I feel like two teams just traded players. See, video game execs are superstars! I hope Moore can breath some fresh life into EA. Full press release from EA after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
Our friend at Microsoft is leaving the company for personal reasons and will be moving back to northern California with his family. We haven’t lost him for good, as he has taken some unannounced job within the games industry.
Taking his place? Don Mattrick, a senior from…. EA (*gag*). EA may make shitty games, but they sure know how to run a business. Hopefully those skills include more than the ability to screw over gamers to make money. I wont judge, though, and I’ll leave the verdict for when we hear more from this lad. You just better be willing to get some tats.
If there is any inkling of truth here, this is just downright devious.
While the $100 price cut of the 60GB PS3 may seem like a good gesture and an attempt to move some stock, SCEE president David Reeves tells us a different story. He told GameIndustry.biz:
Well, [U.S. customers are not really given the option to pay a lower price], because what the US are offering from the 1st of August is a USD 599 version with one game. All they’re doing is taking their stock in trade that they’ve got at the moment of the 60GB model, marking the price down and it will all be gone by the end of July.
Whaaaa?? Slow that down. GameIndustry followed up, “So once the 60GB is gone, that will be the end of the 60GB then?”
In America, yes.
Straight out of the president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s mouth: Sony is dumping its stock of 60GB consoles at $499, and once they are gone, you will only be left with the $599 80GB model. Effectively, there is no price cut. Don’t look at me, I didn’t say it.
The scary thing is, the logistics make sense. I couldn’t understand the logic of creating a new SKU for $100 more than the 60GB model, with only a measly 20GB and Motorstorm to gain. Who would want that? Apparently anyone who wants a PS3, because it very well may be the only option.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out. Is this just one European exec venting at the fact that Europe isn’t see a price cut, too? If it turns out to be true, it will forever be remembered as “the great PS3 price cut conspiracy of 07.” Until then, keep that grain of salt in hand.
I’m sure you are as overwhelmed as me with all the news, coverage, trailers, etc coming out of this years E3. It’s a lot to wrap your mind around, and there is a lot of crap to wade through. In all honesty though, I’m pretty overwhelmed with the quantity of quality games being shown. Here is what I deem worth checking out:
Mass Effect – Xbox 360 (November 07)
The graphics and scope alone are jaw dropping, but it’s the team on board that gives this game promise. We know they can craft a story, and Mass Effect looks like no exception.
If you missed the live action short during last nights MS Media Briefing, here it is. This video was a collaboration between Bungie Studios, director Neill Blomkamp, WETA Workshop and Origami Digital LLC. It is described as “the first digital short depicting humanity’s struggle to save Earth.” You can download it from Bungie, or watch below. Enjoy.
