UPS guesses “repair center” = Xbox 360

After missing the delivery of my repaired 360 (note: signature in person required!), I drove over to my UPS to get the package. While waiting for the box to be retrieved, the customer service person noticed the shipper field on my missed delivery notification read “repair center.” With only that clue, she asked me, “does this happen to be for an Xbox?” I told her yes, and we both laughed. Apparently I’m not alone in my broken 360 woes. She informed me that she has seen hundreds of these 360 return boxes.

This just goes to show how widespread the problem is. Think about how many electronics there are, and how many repair centers there must be. UPS workers see “repair center”, and they assume its an Xbox. That’s pretty damn bad.

My 360 just crapped on me. I bought it at launch and never really had a problem. Now I see why people are so pissed at microsoft. It costs $139 to fix it. What a crap hole of hardware.

I live in Korea and have worked on 30+ xboxs and half of them have had problems that require Microsoft to fix. 4 to 5 percent, lol, another good one Microsoft. Side note it is cheaper to buy and new one that ship it to the states to have Microsoft update the firmware and fix their problems.

Yeah, I think that is sorta a problem but atleast M$ does something about other than what sony or Nitindo would do.

@DR Dmoney If you look at the PS3 forums almost nobody has had an issue and the ones that have Sony has promptly replaced. During Christmas many reported that Sony even overnighted replacements to make sure they had it for the Holiday. The big difference is that Sony is a hardware company and they don’t have these issues in general. Just look at PS3 and X360 side by side. I’d pay the extra just because of the quality build of the PS3 let alone the extra features.

While I agree–sony is primarily a hardware company, while Microsoft is a software company, that doesn’t mean the PS3 is a tank. Most everyone I know has gone through 2 PS2s because the laser stops reading discs. There could be a time bomb in any system. It seems like the 360 is a time bomb. People with launch consoles that haven’t broken yet, I would expect the worse. Who knows, maybe down the road PS3s will start failing left and right. Afterall, the PS2 DVD lasers werent so great because DVD was pretty new technology. Same with Blu-ray, these are first gen, unproven technologies. Who knows how long the blu-ray laser will last. Same goes with the hd-dvd drive. Any time you try to throw in a bunch of new unproven technology, problems are prone to happen.

if there are 10 million Xbox 360’s then 4-5 percent is 400-500 thousand… and most being in the US… so it’s not hard to imagine the UPS people seeing lots of these

I agree with Justin on the quality of Sony products… I imagine that many of your launch PS3s will have some BR related problem in the first 2 to 3 years. My 7th series PS2 has been getting slower on loading because the laser is a POS eventually I’ll only be able to play the games I loaded on my HDD for that eventuality.
